Many of the games watched also degrade women, and the so-called censors have a lot to answer for. We should have intelligent, knowing parents, not government-appointed civil servants, to vet these video games? Maybe we should look into the lifestyles of the current television censors, to see if their children are plugged-in and are part of the video-game culture. I am sure they get lots of freebies to try out! I suspect their children and grandchildren are and if they are the censors will have a one-sided view! My English teacher once said to me, ‘if you smoke dear boy, you should encourage others’ to do so as well, thus feeling snug in the knowledge that you may all die at the same time’! Let professionals and credible teachers, experienced ‘morally-centric’ parents and community leaders be enrolled onto the censorship panels. One better let me be the sole censor of all video games, and I will ban the majority! They are just no good for children, and parents should want to give children what is good for them! Reality is real, virtual reality is not real! To the children who are addicted to these games, the wrong messages are contained in the many violent scenes. To them the pictures are real and therefore represent what happens in the real world. How would they know what the real world is like when they stage sit-downs in their bedrooms for most of their lives to protect their screen-habits! Things that are portrayed in these games can happen and are based on the real world. How else can they possible be contrived? Let me remind you that the makers of the military training videos are invariably also the makers of violent video games on sale to youngsters. This is a repeat of the other addictive ‘for sale toys’, such as Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles, Pokémon, Cyber Pets, and the millions of other ghastly must-haves that become the crazes to negatively affect the lives of children. Introduced into an addictive society they are extremely damaging. Human beings are being changed, changed in childhood, ready to become the irresponsible parents of their children yet to be born, with absolutely no idea what human beings needs to experience to become upright freethinking adults able to take their place in the world, with respect. Commonly used advertising slogans contain words to appeal to the modern child; Ninja, cult, addict, death, murder, blood, self-harm, suicide, and more recently mental illness! Many of these words can be found on the advertising for violent games, but to suggest that a particular game is for adults only, seems ridiculous as there are no checks that can possibly be effective.

I have invited the government to listen to my views, but they are apparently too busy, (or perhaps afraid). They are certainly not open-minded!

As a daily reader of the world news, and in particular those items which apply to childhood and education, my passions, I rarely find articles about the declining standards of family life in this country, the decline in moral values and the way in which the world is holding children to ransom. In 2009 I wrote an article entitled, ‘England, a land where children bring up their parents’! I had an inordinate number of responses to that article and I was stirred into continuing to hold controversial article-writing as a priority in my life, and to write my feelings about the demise of childhood in the modern world.

An eminent doctor has highlighted so many elements of childhood that I felt at one point he must have read my website, knew me intimately and had stolen my underlying thoughts and principles on the subject, principles of education at The Acorn School. As it was, he had come to the same conclusions I had, and he absolutely nailed it. There are thousands of doctors and educationists who have come to the same conclusions; not only this doctor. Is it so difficult to come to a conclusion about what is and what is not good for children? Whose ideals do you accept?

We must all pull together to ensure that we do not write-off our children, our families and the potential that each child has. It is perhaps too late for those who have reached adulthood, because they made their choices in a world that was very different from today’s.
